Adriana Christie, 25, social entrepreneur (codirector of Gwamu Ltd and the Pallet Kingdom) and AUT honours student, lives in Remuera Push ‘sustainable city’ idea

-

What do you like best about living in Remuera?

Mainly its view of Rangitoto, each time I drive down Bassett Rd and I see the harbour, its colours and the boats I have this sense of tranquillity and happiness.

How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I have lived in the Remuera/ Parnell area for the past seven years. I was born in Bogota, Colombia, from a Kiwi mum and a Colombian dad. Studied in the US and moved to New Zealand about eight years ago.

What do you like least and how can we fix it?

I dislike the fact that we don’t have recycling bins on our main road, or bike parks and especially not a clear cycling lane down Remuera Rd. I consider that collaborative work among Auckland Council, Auckland Transport, local boards and even organisations such as Generation Zero could help solve these issues.

Where’s the best place to buy dinner in your area?

The new Burger Burger in Newmarket has been one of our favourites this past month. In saying that, we are regulars at Mexicali and Hasan.

And who does the best fish ‘n chips?

In my opinion nothing beats Mangonui’s fish ‘n chips.

Who is the Kiwi you admire most – and why?

My grandfather Lindsay Christie. In the 1960s my grandparents made the drastic decision of leaving their comfortable life here in Auckland to do social work in Colombia. My grandfather laid his life to help and empower the poor people of Colombia and Latin America.

If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d …

Deepen the concept of a ‘‘sustainable city’’. Implement policies such as banning plastic bags and bottles. I would consider investing in renewable energy, especially solar power to help operate housing, public spaces, libraries, community centres and schools.

When I’ve got a free few hours I like to ...

I’m really into woodworking lately.

The spot in Auckland I’d recommend to tourists is

If they are looking for a great place to dine, La Zeppa hands down, especially if its out on the deck. The view of the city and the ambience of the place makes a great impression on tourists.
