Beach a great backyard

-

What do you like best about living in Auckland?

Kohimarama Beach is a pretty nice backyard to have but one of the things I love most about Auckland is that there are so many amazing places to explore within a couple of hours drive. I particu- larly like heading to the Matakana Markets and the West Coast beaches.

How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I’ve been in Auckland for the best part of the past 11 years but grew up in Nelson. What do you like least? Battling the traffic in and out of the city over a long weekend.

Where’s the best place to buy dinner in your area?

Genki in Kohimarama does an amazing Chicken Teriyaki. And who does the best fish n chips?

Who is the Kiwi you admire most – and why?

Edmund Hillary – he achieved something special but remained humble and committed to improving the lives of so many people around the world. He was a great ambassador for New Zealand.

If I was Auckland’s mayor I’d ...

Make sure I ask the city at large what they want from the current stadium debate. I appreciate we don’t have a ton of funds to build a whole new stadium but it’s important we don’t just take the easy option in favour of the best long term solution.

When I’ve got a few free hours I like to ...

Golf. I’m very good at the driving range but unfortunately it doesn’t really follow through to the course all that often.

The spot I’d recommend to tourists is ...

Waiheke Island. So close to Auckland but you feel like you are a million miles away the moment you set foot on the island.
