Reach your child’s potential

Phoebe and Claudia Brown are typical school students. The Year 9 and Year 6 siblings both do well at school, but there is always room for improvement, especially in pursuit of those Excellence grades.

‘‘We wanted to challenge our girls’ learning; they were doing really well at school, but we felt that they needed a boost to work more efficiently,’’ explains Jane, their mum. ‘‘We met with NumberWorks’nWords, liked what we learned, and signed up.’’

Both girls signed up for Maths and English tutoring; Phoebe began in Year 7 and by Year 8 had achieved the maximum in all her English assessments, so is continuing solely with Maths.

Both girls find that having the work in front of them on the computer is easy and fun to negotiate. They also like their tutors who they say understand and relate to them very well. ‘‘They help us a lot,’’’ says Claudia.

‘‘They really know their stuff!’’ Jane adds. ’’They explain tasks, use language and examples in a way that the girls quickly grasp. Most of all they make it fun and the girls feel comfortable that they can ask lots of questions.’’

You wouldn’t expect students to be over-enthusiastic about doing extra work after a full day at school, but Jane is amazed about their positive attitude at the end of each session. ‘‘How does NumberWorks’nWords achieve such fantastic enthusiasm in two hours?’’ she asks.

NumberWorks’nWords’ programs follow the current NZ curriculum, combining computer exercises with listening, comprehension and hand writing activities.

The girls thrive in the environment, individual learning programs, specially selected tutors, regular assessment and feedback. Phoebe remembers one particular session before a major test at school. Her tutor took her through not just the key points of learning but tips on how to structure her answers in an exam situation. She came out saying: ‘She’s such a great tutor, I really understand it.’’

Jane says, ‘‘If you want to give your kids a boost and want to see them feeling more confident and being more successful, or prepare them for intermediate and college, then consider NumberWorks’nWords, its working so far for our girls.’’
