All go at Epsom Village

-

Residents at Epsom Village have been busy the last few months preparing for its very special arts and crafts exhibition, held on Friday August 5 from 10am to 12pm.

The highly anticipated event was organised by residents Christine and Di, who extended an invite to those with a love for arts, crafts and other hobbies to join them in presenting their past and present works to staff and fellow residents.

The turnout was spectacular and the main lounge came alive with their most treasured pieces, from handmade cards, beaded handbags and handpainted plates to embroidery, cross-stitch, knitting and so much more. An especially memorable feature was the beautiful woodwork by resident David Harnes, which he handcrafted out of recycled materials in the village’s onsite ’man cave’ and woodwork room.

This is one of many exciting events that have occurred so far this month. Others include the bus trip to Devonport on Thursday August 4, consisting of a tiki tour and a visit to the popular Esplanade Hotel for lunch, and the combined men’s outing alongside Remuera Gardens to the classic car museum in Hamilton. Last week, residents also enjoyed an outing to the Ardmore Aerodrome, where they indulged in a spot of lunch and admired some of the old planes.

As well as entertainment from further afield, the residents will have plenty to keep them busy in their own backyard this month with musical performances, weekly movies and talks from guest speakers including Grant Spencer, Deputy Governor of New Zealand and Simon O’Connor, MP for Tamaki. Other highlights include the Alexandra Park horse races, a 98th birthday celebration, the intervillage quiz and the group dinners every second Saturday from 6pm.

Epsom Village is at 67 Ranfurly Road, Epsom. If you would like to have a tour of its immaculate grounds, contact Lyn Ellis on 630 4379 and she’ll be happy to show you around.
