Vikings to face Te Atatu in Sharman Cup final

- TORIKA TOKALAU-CHANDRA

One game at a time has always been the stride of the Bay Roskill Vikings in the 2016 Sharman Cup rugby league competition.

Following 16 wins over 19 games, the Vikings have found themselves in the grand final against last year’s finalists the Te Atatu Roosters.

‘‘All year it has been one game at a time,’’ Vikings coach Colin Brown says.

Brown knows the Roosters demand a lot of respect after finishing top of the table in the league.

They’ve won 18 games this season.

‘‘Te Atatu is a class team, they have been leading the way in the competition and will definitely be looking to maintain their status especially since they came so close last year in the grand final.

‘‘We have a chance to make the premier grade - the last time we were there was back in 2012 so this game means a lot to us.

‘‘There is 80 minutes of play, 17 players each, three match officials - the ball can bounce either way.’’

Bay Roskill booked their grand final spot by taking down Waitemata Seagulls on August 27, 24-12.

‘‘This has been a good season for our three main teams, our premier two [side] won their grand final and our senior reserves just missed out.’’

The grand final kicks off at 11.30am at Mt Smart Stadium #2 on Saturday.
