WATERMAIN GOES LIVE

-

On May 16 the Hunua 4 watermain will begin supplying drinking water to parts of Mt Wellington, Penrose and the central eastern suburbs. This is a major milestone for the 32-kilometre project, which began in 2012. The pipeline will ultimately connect the reservoirs in Redoubt Rd, Manukau, to those in Khyber Pass, Grafton, and service all the communities along its route. The watermain’s pipes have diameters ranging from 1.6 metres to 1.9 metres. These will supply 120 million litres per day along the route, which is equivalent to 48 Olympic-sized swimming pools of drinking water. The final section is expected to be finished by 2020.
