NZ Classic Driver

What the readers say

Interesting reading the letters to the editor (CD51), re the “Chrysoto” and Len Beaver.

In the early 40s my family resided at Towai and owned the grocery store and carrying business and bus service called Pioneer Transport. Len Beaver who resided at Kawakawa, drove the flash new Studebaker bus from Moerewa to Whangarei and return daily. The vehicle had six trumpet horns of varying tones connected to a button pad controlled by the driver who was quite musical. He was a lovely, quiet type of gentleman and my family spoke highly of him. A great story, and unfortunately myself being too young then to be aware of his mechanical capabilities.

Now a request. Please could the photo layout team refrain from printing car photos across the magazine pages? The lovely 1951 RMD Riley Drophead Coupe photos are brilliant but spoilt – the size of photos will fit one page – be it longitudinal to achieve that. Duesenberg photos the same, but Classic Car had a full page lift out provided. A lot of car enthusiasts do collect pictures and photos and surely would appreciate the aforementioned.

A great recent article of the Campbell Autos Assembly Plant – more of those stories please: they are history. Remember the magazine is called New Zealand Classic Driver. Keep with the theme, you are drifting off course. Allan Dick is a hard act to follow – stick with it! Geoff Ralls TH Thanks for your comments Geoff and we have been listening. What we would like to announce is the imminent release of the Classic Driver calendar, a full colour A2 production featuring our 13 favourite cars from past issues. See the advert in this issue for more details.
