Kumho Tyres ground break­ing ini­tia­tive of plant­ing a New Zealand na­tive plant for ev­ery eco tyre sold, in con­junc­tion with Kumho Tyre Re­tail­ers, is prov­ing suc­cess­ful for the en­vi­ron­ment and the cus­tomer.

For ev­ery Kumho Ecow­ing tyre pur­chased an eco sourced na­tive tree will be planted by the Tal­bot For­est Work­ing Group/ Ti­maru District Coun­cil.

This will en­able wildlife cor­ri­dors to be es­tab­lished ad­ja­cent to the Tal­bot For­est Scenic Re­serve in Geral­dine, South Can­ter­bury.

Over the last few months more than 750 plants have been pur­chased and al­ready it is pos­si­ble to see the ad­di­tion of trees that this Kumho ini­tia­tive has cre­ated.

Ines Stager and Gary Fos­ter (on be­half of Tal­bot For­est Work­ing Group and Ti­maru District Coun­cil) had this to say re­gard­ing the scheme;

“The plant­ing of na­tive trees, as a re­sult of the Kumho Tyres pro­mo­tion, is im­prov­ing bio­di­ver­sity and amenity on the Geral­dine Downs.

“The plant­ing un­der­taken to date, and those planned for the fu­ture in the Barker Street vicin­ity will not only con­trib­ute to pro­vid­ing an en­hanced back­drop for Geral­dine town­ship, but will also pro­vide valu­able wildlife cor­ri­dor link­ages from Tal­bot For­est to other ar­eas on the Geral­dine Downs.

“These cor­ri­dors will as­sist the move­ment of birds, bats, in­sects and lizards, which are all crit­i­cal to en­sur­ing the on­go­ing well­be­ing of both Tal­bot For­est and other nat­u­ral ar­eas on the Downs.

“Tal­bot For­est Work­ing Group and the Ti­maru District Coun­cil are grate­ful for the op­por­tu­nity to work with Kumho Tyres on this project.”

Later in 2014 a Man­ager from Kumho Tyres Korea is com­ing to New Zealand and has re­quested a visit to the plant­ing site to see the work done so far.

As people be­come aware of the sav­ings that can be made by run­ning Kumho Ecow­ing tyres, plus the knowl­edge that a tree has been planted for each tyre pur­chased, sales are pre­dicted to in­crease rapidly.

The Kumho Ecow­ing tyre is an en­vi­ron­men­tally friendly tyre – the de­sign brief was to pro­duce a tyre with low rolling re­sis­tance to save fuel and re­duce emis­sions dur­ing man­u­fac­tur­ing and us­age.

Not only does the Ecow­ing tyre save the en­vi­ron­ment with less emis­sions they of­fer ex­cep­tional per­for­mance, sav­ing up to 5% fuel us­age com­pared to non eco tyres.

Kumho tyres have be­come world lead­ers at de­sign­ing rev­o­lu­tion­ary new prod­ucts and this cam­paign is one way Kumho can give back and help keep New Zealand green whilst as­sist­ing New Zealan­ders save money on fuel dur­ing tough eco­nomic times.
