Jet Car!

And finally, a race-car with an amazing history currently for sale in Auckland is Ian Garmey’s superbly-restored 1951 Cooper Mk 5-JAP. What makes this car unique is that it was once the Pulse Jet Cooper with a French SNECMA unit installed in 1957 by JLM Meikle from Ulster. Previously owned by Stirling Moss’s friend Derek Annable, the car subsequently lived in Australia and then came to New Zealand. I recall seeing it at Ardmore in 1990, still with some of its faded ‘jet’ bodywork. Ian is selling it with full records of its fascinating history: something really different!
