Floveyor conveyor is a roaring success at Lion Brewery
Lion Brewery was forced to make some tough decisions in the wake of the Canterbury Earthquake.
With the loss of Canterbury Brewery, overnight Speight’s became their second largest brewery in New Zealand – and with that came new, significantly larger production requirements and complexities that Speight’s just wasn’t geared up to deal with.
And so began a three year, $40m redevelopment at the historic site and a small but crucial part of that was the installation of Aurora’s Floveyor conveyor system.
This was an integral part of the process, agrees project brewer Geoff Collie.
“Aurora played a small part because it was a very big project, but it was important to get that end of the system working well,” says Geoff.
“Aurora were great to work with. They took time to look at the site and understand the problems.”
The Speights’ Brewery site dates from 1876, and although there were many benefits to upgrading this site, the age and design of the buildings threw up some challenges.
“Access hasn’t been easy, but we were able to work through that,” says Geoff. “It was good that we could disassemble Aurora’s equipment, which facilitated access and installation inside.”
Overall, the redevelopment of the Speight’s Brewery was a massive task with exacting timelines and deadlines, but Aurora played their part in making it all happen on schedule.
“They were very good,” Geoff says. “They know their equipment and they understood our requirements. We definitely got what we thought we were getting.”
The main benefit for Lion has been streamlining their operation, which has a large number of complex and interconnected elements – all of which need to be working in unison.
This is now made easier, in part thanks to Aurora’s Floveyor system.
“Compared to what we used to use, we now have ease of operation and it integrates with the rest of the system.” Geoff says.
The Floveyor was invented in 1960, as an economical way to move peanuts. It is now used in more than 30 countries to move most kinds of powders and granules, from cocoa beans to tea leaves. It is used in major industries, such as bottling, chemical, food processing and pharmaceutical, to move millions of tonnes of product a year.
The Floveyor is inexpensive to operate, has a long life, uses a simple principle and there is little degradation of the product as it moves.
Extremely versatile and adaptable configurations allow Floveyor to be your company’s conveyoring solution.
