Door open for Competenz scholarship

-

Connor Farrell from M A Brown Engineering is studying toward a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 5) in fabrication.

The Competenz Scholarship 2014 is now open for applications. Competenz has four scholarships available that cover the cost of an engineering qualification at Level 5 or 6.

This is the perfect opportunity to advance your career to the next step after completing an apprenticeship.

A scholarship can be a “huge help” says Connor Farrell from M A Brown Engineering, who is studying toward a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 5) in fabrication. Connor was awarded a scholarship in 2013.

“I applied for this scholarship because I have a young family and have very little extra money,” says Connor. “Receiving this scholarship meant a lot to me because if I didn’t receive it I most likely wouldn’t have been able to sit the qualification.”

Competenz scholarships are for those completing or wanting to complete a Level 5 National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or a Level 6 New Zealand Diploma in Engineering Practice (NZDEP).

To be eligible for the scholarship candidates must meet the requirements for the qualification.

This year the scholarships are open for application until the 30 April.

“Anyone who has already enrolled into an eligible qualification from the 1 May 2013 will be able to apply. Or if you intend to enrol, but haven’t done so yet, you will also be eligible,” says Fiona Kingsford, general manager trades, Competenz.

“After achieving this qualification I plan on working towards a higher leadership role such as head foreman,” says Connor.
