Keep those hoses off the dirty floor

Although hoses scattered or stored on food production f loors are considered a workplace safety concern, there is also a hygiene factor to take into account.

It is for these reasons that ReCoila designs and manufactures technologies specifically for the food and beverage production sectors, from primary handling sector through to multi-processing.

The firm manufactures and stocks a range of reels well suited to industries and applications where hygiene is paramount.

The company has all manner of reels including heavy-duty stainless steel reels specifically for food processing plants where the reel needs to withstand regular harsh cleaning.

Its HW series hot wash reels, for instance, are widely used in kitchens and food preparation areas for wash downs. ReCoila also produces a purpose-built nitrogen reel, specifically designed for blanketing wine vats during fermentation.

The firm’s managing director, Michael Pawson, says the food manufacturing, processing and packing sectors are typical ‘nosecond-chance’ sectors where one tiny wash down oversight can lead to a contamination problem, let alone an injury from trip hazard.

“Although most businesses operating within the meat and food processing industries have strict hygiene procedures in place, and wash-down action is part of everyday operations, often the finer details involved in wash down can be missed,” he says.

“Yet in so many places we see one example after another where an industrial hose is left snaking across an entire plant or just thrown into a corner of the f loor space until it is next in use.

“It all sounds so simple and non-threatening, but it genuinely does cause potential danger by being on the f loor. Storing your hose on a hose reel keeps the hose up off the f loor, clean, tidy, not tangled and always easy to find.”

ReCoila uses a high stainless steel spring rewind hose reels that are ideal for use in food processing industries. They are strong, reliable and hygienic, and can handle pressures up to 400 bar.

There are also many other reel technologies from ReCoila that are suited to the broader food processing industries, including manual hose reels in stainless steel, polypropylene spring rewind reels for hot water wash down (such as the HWG1215 hot wash reel), hose reels for food and liquid transfer, nitrogen hose reels for use in wineries and drinking water hose reels.
