DEMM Engineering & Manufacturing
Craig Carlyle, MESNZ column
With winter’s firm grip upon us, and the shortest day now gone, thoughts of spring weather may seem premature – but will it be here before we know it.
The same applies to MESNZ national conference. The 2014 SKF National Maintenance Engineering Conference is returning this year to Hamilton, having outgrown its previous Rotorua location.
Whatever your interest in maintenance or manufacturing management, be it tradesman, engineer, manager, supplier, speaker or expert, mark November 12 and 13 in your diary. The Kingsgate in Hamilton is where you can listen to, and network with, some of the finest and most experienced maintenance management minds from New Zealand and around the world.
This is not just another conference. Last year’s attendees told us the event was the best value-for-money inspiration-fest they had found.
Numerous examples have been related where engineers have used the event to take stock, listen to people who have been in the same positions and network with peers. They have returned to their sites bristling with inspiration, vision and the tools to change their worlds.
The (MESNZ is a non-profit technical group of IPENZ. The society’s aims are to provide resources, mentoring and networking opportunities for maintenance engineers throughout New Zealand.
The conference is the jewel in the crown a raft of initiatives delivered by the society as it brings together tradesmen, engineers and managers. MESNZ has an ethos of providing holistic line management topics at the national conference, recognising that while engineers have a core interest in the technical subjects, their roles require competence in a far wider range of topics in the modern industrial environment – technical, PM, employment law, H&S, team management, lean and energy.
Because it is a non-profit society, MESNZ is able to offer the lowest rates for conference attendance and exhibition in the Southern Hemisphere, removing traditional barriers for engineers and small business’s to participate.

Network event SupaGas Wiri
The Maintenance Engineering Society of NZ (MESNZ) Network Event programme has proved to be a hit for engineers and interested punters keen to get together after hours for a look at how other operations work.
These relaxed gatherings offer the opportunity to widen your horizons and explore engineering experiences and solutions.
Understanding engineers, MESNZ knows how to create a relaxing environment and the result has seen the full house sign out at every 2014 event so far. With numbers having to be restricted at some recent events, it is pleasing to see no limits to the society’s next event, at SupaGas Wiri on August 7.
If you have never seen what happens to your gas bottles before, the SupaGas evening promises a rare opportunity to take a look at an industrial gas operation while enjoying the hospitality of a genuine Kiwi-grown business.
SupaGas is proud to display their can-do approach to supplying the industry with a number of industrial gas solutions. Their reputation has spread as more and more satisfied customers discover the new alternative to traditional gas suppliers.
Pre-registration for the evening is required although there is no cost to new attendees or MESNZ members.
