Gearboxes for backing gates

-

The expansion of dairy farms and the global demand for New Zealand dairy products has increased demand for reliable equipment.

One common tool used at the beginning of dairy production is a backing gate.

A well-designed backing gate helps improve cow flow into the dairy shed. This should ensure milkers have no need to go into the yard to bring cows in.

Faults in dairy design and in backing gate control cause most so-called backing gate problems, and are the main reasons for poor cow flow into the milking area.

When it comes to gearboxes it pays to have a quality reliable brand.

EQM has been supplying STM gearboxes – the UMI and RMI range to farmers throughout Waikato, Taranaki, Southland and Canterbury.

We understand the need for a reliable gearbox, and an advantage with the STM range is that they usually fit right into the place of the old gearbox – regardless of what brand it was.

The recommended speed of a gate being used to shift cows forward should be moved very slowly (0.5m/5sec in a rectangular yard, 1m/5sec in a circular yard) to avoid stressing cows.

This becomes even more important as the gate length in a round yard increases.

All gates on rectangular yards benefit by having the drive systems made to drive all four wheels, however this becomes more important as the gate length increases.

So don’t be a bull at the gate-call us to discuss what’s the best STM gearbox to install.
