Success onshore and off for Hamilton company

-

Success within New Zealand installing plant equipment for this country’s dairy industry quickly led to Hendl & Murray Engineering Ltd heading offshore to fulfil the needs of clients globally. In the nearly four decades it has been established, the Hamilton-based operation has expanded its staff to 40 and its services into the design and fabrication of tanks, vessels and silos within its fully-equipped fabrication facility and provides manufacturing and engineering solutions to the dairy, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical industries worldwide.

A notable project was the supply of six 540m3 Sugar Hoppers at a contract price in excess of three million dollars for Sugar Australia. The project included fabrication of the sugar hoppers as a complete unit delivered and ready to erect in Melbourne. This involved workshop fabrication of segments as large as allowable on New Zealand roads, which were then transported to a leased yard opposite the Port of Tauranga. Here the units underwent final assembly before being clad inside a “workshop” built from 40ft shipping containers. On arrival at Sugar Australia in Victoria, the hoppers were installed over the period of a single weekend.

The on-site capabilities of HME are diverse. Some of the specific skills include – although aren’t limited to: • Project management • Stainless steel pipework to AS/NZS standards. • High pressure stainless steel and carbon steel pipelines to

ASME standard, including certified steam and ammonia lines. • Pipe bridges and utility services pipe work, inclusive of

structural steel and civil works. • Tank, vessel and silo fabrication. • Installation of specialist process equipment. • Small turn-key plant construction. • Maintenance.

HME has its own in-house quality system that has evolved from the continual development of its original ISO9002 accredited system. This procedure covers all aspects of the business, from contract award through to design and drawings, and then all the way through to final testing of the completed product.
