The central Auckland schools annual Science and Technology Fair will be held on August 26 and 27 at St Kentigern Boys’ School in Remuera. The fair will be open to the public from 5pm until 8pm on August 26 and 1pm until 5pm on August 27. The fair will showcase scientific and technologi­cal investigat­ions carried out by students in year 7 through to year 13. Go to scifair.org.nz for more informatio­n.

HEALTH RESULTS

The Auckland District Health Board says they have had another successful quarter. Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says the improved access to elective surgery has been achieved and the DHB surpassed the target by one per cent. The target for more heart and diabetes checks was again met this quarter and Auckland DHB topped the table with 92 per cent. However further progress is needed on the faster cancer treatment target and immunisati­on of eight month olds. Auckland DHB will receive an extra $51 million in new money this year, taking the DHB’S total funding to $1.3 billion for 2016/17.

MAN NAMED

The man who died after his motorcycle crashed with a car on Tuesday has been named as Kheiran Michael Jenkins, 25, from Mangere Bridge. Jenkins was taken to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition after the Onehunga crash, but died hours later. The crash happened on Onehunga Harbour Road on Tuesday morning, and resulted in the closure of the busy Neilson St on and off-ramps ot the south western motorway. Extensive delays were reported along the motorway, Nielsen St and Onehunga Mall due to the closures.the Serious Crash Unit is still investigat­ing.
