ONLINE CENOTAPH

-

More than 100,000 WWII Army records are being made freely available for the first time through an online cenotaph. Auckland Museum is inviting the public to add what they know to the records of New Zealand servicemen and women who served in the Second World War. Nearly eight decades ago this week - on September 12 1939 enlistment for the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force (2NZEF) got underway, signalling the start of this country’s involvement in the Second World War. Of the 140,000 New Zealanders dispatched to serve overseas in WWII, 104,000 of them served with the 2NZEF. Auckland Museum is now making these WWII Army personnel records publicly accessible through Online Cenotaph. Online Cenotaph enables the public to add information to individual records or to lay a poppy on the page of different servicemen or women to remember them. More than 80,000 pieces of information have been added to the records since 2015. For more information visit http:/ /www.aucklandmuseum.com.

WOMEN IN FILM

SAE Auckland is holding its first female-only film making workshop, Chicflix, at its Auckland campus on Saturday 16 September exploring why there are not more women in film. The aim of the one-day workshop is to empower women to feel that filmmaking is a viable career option for them. Chicflix is the sister to Chicmix, a female-only audio workshop, which SAE began in 2015. In New Zealand women directors make up only 14 per cent of funding applications received by the New Zealand Film Commission. For more information visit http:/ /auckland.sae.edu online.

CORRECTION

In the Wednesday, September 6 edition of the East and Bays Courier, Maungakiekie Green Party candidate Chloe Swarbrick was referred to as a Green Party MP on p5. This is not correct, Swarbrick is a candidate. In the same edition a story on page 3 said the resident pictured was John Inverarity. His name is David Inverarity. We apologise for the error.
