Lowie’s backing youth education
- providing an opportunity to get a qualification and learn about pathways in professional league.
Lowie was like a lot of young people in South Auckland, unsure of his future, but his father’s advice - ’’the ordinary can make it’’ - stuck with him.
He tells me the talent he sees motivated him to create an opportunity for those passionate about sport to have a pathway to learning about the professional game.
He understands school isn’t always a good match for everyone, and wanted to create an environment where students could play and learn, so they will train daily while Lowe uses his league contacts to enhance the learning and experiences of the students.
MIT lecturers will ensure they are supported, and that their learning is related to sport, so students see the value in going to class. Pathways include study at diploma and degree level, and employment in strength and conditioning, coaching, and administration in sport.
Classes start on February 27, and the programme will be based at MIT Kolmar in Papatoetoe and the Otara North Campus.
MIT is a great place and can also support students into learning in other areas, such as building, automotive and teaching. For details, phone Michelle Parsons on 09 968 8670; or send an email to michelle.parsons@manukau.ac.nz.
