Hair Accessories How-To
Milly Briant of Fort Street’s Rodney Wayne gives her top tips
on how to do hair accessories right
HEADBANDS: “Revamped this season, the bigger and bolder the better. Think big jewels, beads, flowers and anything with a slight
gothic feel. If jewels or flowers aren’t your thing, take a more boho-chic route and use a headscarf tied at the nape, perfect for
getting away with wash-and-go hair.”
CLIPS: “From a simple bobby pin at the temple to raiding your grandmother’s jewellery box for brooches, anything goes. Update your bobby pin collection with coloured or rose-gold tones for
a simple daytime look. For the more daring, look for ornate barrettes and clips. To wear, simply pull some strands back from the temple and secure with the pin for a looser look, or slide them
next to a chignon for a glamorous evening style.”
HALF CROWNS: “Half crowns, tiaras and diadems are the big hits of the coming season, and while they may sound not for the faint-hearted, they’re actually relatively easy to wear. If you’re more on the minimalist side, try a simple metallic band with a textured
chignon or sleek ponytail. For the more daring among us, take a leaf out of Marchesa or Dolce & Gabbana’s book and wear them
adorned with beads and jewels.”
