BEAUJOLAIS

-

Pierreclos > Les Villages Beaujolais 25 minutes

To the uninitiated, the name Beaujolais might conjure images of the cheap and cheerful Beaujolais nouveau wine, which is fermented for only a few weeks before being bottled and sold on the third Thursday of November, often amid great fanfare and marketing hubris. Mais non — the wines of Beaujolais Villages are a much more rened aair.

The appellation of Beaujolais Villages ocially constitutes just a handful of pretty hamlets studded with vines. The areas and villages to mark on your map are SaintAmour-Bellevue, Juliénas, Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Chenas, Chiroubles,

Côtes de Brouilly and Régnié. You’ll want to ramble slowly around these magical spots, tasting as you go. Here are some of our recommendations for stocking up on a bottle or two:

• Château de Juliénas:

Les Villages Beaujolais > Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées > Lyon

1 hour 30 minutes

On the last leg of your honeymoon tour, make your way to Lyon, detouring through the ‘golden’ villages of Oingt, Ternand and Theizé. These quaint towns were built from the yellow stones that give the area the nickname Little Tuscany.

It’s in Lyon that we leave you — to explore the riverside city, or continue back to Paris, on to the South, or further aeld to Geneva. But of course we won’t say goodbye without recommending some of our favourite places to eat, drink and sleep.

For coee, brunch or lunch, try Konditori, a divine eatery that’s co-owned by Kiwi Rosamund Morris James, where you’ll

nd pavlova on the menu. Rosamund and her crew also own the bustling La Boîte à Café and roast their own delectable beans at Mokxa. KONDITORI konditori.fr LA BOITE À CAFÉ cafemokxa.com

For the chicest night’s sleep, check in to Mama Shelter Lyon. This boutique hotel is designed by Philippe Starck, and all the hallmarks of his creative mind are here — everything from chairs hewn from stone to the restaurant ceiling decorated with multicoloured in—atable life rings.
