Fashion Quarterly

EDITOR’S LETTER

-

Editing our Happiness Issue has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my time here at Fashion Quarterly. There’s something so uplifting about pictures of people smiling and, in my opinion, it’s something we don’t see enough of in fashion magazines. But for the past few months, as the stories and shoots have been filed by the team and arrived on my desk, that’s virtually all I’ve seen — and those smiles have been infectious.

There’s arguably no more radiant a smile than that of my friend — and our cover girl — Georgia Fowler, someone we just loved collaborating with. This Kiwi model is not only beautiful on the outside, she’s also warm, funny, hard-working and deserving of her every success. On page 87, she tells Phoebe Watt about her jet-setting career and shares her own key to happiness.

I’ve been lucky enough to get to know Georgia recently as we filmed the first-ever season of Project Runway New Zealand. Yes, that’s right, I’m thrilled to finally be able to share the news that I’m a judge on the upcoming show. Like many of you, I’m a long-standing fan of the US version, so I leapt at the chance to take part. Keep an eye out for the premiere on TVNZ 2 and at FQ.co.nz, where we’ll have our own designated channel.

This issue, we also spoke to some of my favourite creatives about their happy places and how they inspire their work (page 66). And if the state of your teeth is holding you back from your smile goals — not to mention the perfect selfie — turn to page 144, where you’ll learn all about the latest dental treatments.

Another thing to smile about this season is New Zealand Fashion Week. This year, along with our annual Fashion Weekend show, The Edit, we’ll be giving you access to the goings-on only media and industry insiders get to see. Join us at FQ.co.nz and on Instagram @FashionQuarterly to catch our broadcasts from the front row, all the beauty and hair looks backstage and, of course, the most covetable street style.

Wherever you find yourself reading this issue, I hope you’re feeling happy. If not, try buying new shoes. That always does the trick for me — and there are plenty of great options inside.
