A SPRING IN HER STEP

Jockey ambassador Matilda Rice’s new range pairs comfort and colour with a healthy dose of go-get-’em

-

When refreshing your wardrobe for the warmer weather, there’s no better place to start than with top-quality underwear. To mark the launch of the latest Matilda x Jockey range, we took a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration to discover Matilda Rice’s design inspirations, what comfort and wellbeing mean to her, and how she maintains that perennially positive attitude.

1

How did you go about choosing the colours and prints for your latest looks?

Coral is one of my favourite colours and instantly makes me think of summer. I really wanted to blend it with a shade that reminds me of the sea, so we settled on teal. In terms of the print, I wanted it to be oral but still modern and fun. I’m in love with this range, and am so excited to nd out what everyone else thinks of it.

2

What do you stock your own underwear drawer with?

I’m very particular about the underwear I choose — comfort is my number-one priority. I go for soft, good-quality fabrics like breathable cotton, and avoid anything that cuts into me, because who wants a mun top?

3

What does wellness mean to you?

In my opinion, wellness is about being condent and happy in your own skin, and looking after your body and mind with wholefoods and movement. Wellness isn’t a number on the scales or a dress size — it’s feeling like the best version of yourself, whatever that is to you.

4 Finding time to exercise and hit the g ym is tricky for anyone with a hectic schedule. How do you stay motivated to keep t?

It can denitely be tough, especially in winter. I usually tweak my exercise routine according to the season and how my body feels. In summer, I love getting out in the sunshine and going for runs or doing workouts in the park, whereas in winter, I usually feel like hibernating, so rather than anything too full-on, I do more yoga and Pilates. Social sport is also huge for me because I love indoor netball. Joining a team can be really motivating, because the fear of letting your teammates down outweighs that can’t-bebothered feeling.

5

How do you stay so positive?

I look after myself through good food and movement, which works wonders, and surround myself with amazing people who make me laugh and lift me up. Your social circle can really a‡ect your mental wellbeing, so don’t waste your time on relationships that make you feel average. Meditation also plays a big part in my positive outlook. Since I started, my stress levels have signicantly reduced and I’m much more centred when dealing with life’s ups and downs. If you’re sceptical, give it a go every morning for a week and then tell me how you feel!

6

What’s one thing that always puts a smile on your face?

My cats, Brian and Christine — I’m seriously obsessed. One cuddle from them and it’s instant happiness.

7

What out t do you have on high rotation right now?

I found these amazing old-school mom jeans in a second-hand store in San Francisco and now I basically never take them o‡. They’re super-comfortable, and look amazing teamed with a loose-tting shirt or a T-shirt and blazer.
