THE GOOP PODCAST
Love her or loathe her, Gwyneth Paltrow sure knows how to make a podcast that truly hits the spot. Sure, you’re bound to come across very GP-esque cultural references at times, but this podcast also covers topics as diverse as ‘Super Woman Syndrome’, ‘Are We All Psychic?’ and possibly the best title for a podcast episode ever: ‘It’s Normal to Occasionally Hate Your Spouse’. Gwyn, naturally, also has a bevy of celebs to draw upon for episodes – Olivia Wilde, Chrissy Teigen and Sarah Jessica Parker, just for starters. It’s quite a treat to hear this A-lister pick their brains about everything from Sarah Jessica’s refusal since ’99 to give up her Blackberry, to what it was like for Olivia being brought up by two war journalist parents and what Chrissy really loves about being with John Legend. And hey, you know you’ve found a blockbuster if the rst guest is Oprah, for heaven’s sake!
JOANNE, BY LADY GAGA
I know, I’m super late to the party on this one, but when this album was released late-2016 I wasn’t ready for it. Now, having seen the documentary Gaga:
Five Foot Two and witnessing the universal admiration for her performance in the everybody’stalking-about-it A Star Is Born,
I understand the psychology behind her departure from her pop roots. Joanne is a recalibration of Lady Gaga as we knew her, and while it’s not perfect or very coherent in its aesthetic, there’s something relatable in its confusion with a tempo to be discovered for every kind of summer.
PODCAST: MY FAVORITE MURDER
If you were hooked on Serial, binge-watched Making a
Murderer and zz over anything to do with true crime then you’ve probably already subscribed to this hit podcast. If not, where have you been? Hosted by two kick-ass American feminists, Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgari, it’s a light-hearted take on some pretty dark stu– and serves as a vehicle for highlighting the importance of mental health awareness, supporting victims of crime and throwing politeness out the window, all in one hilariously entertaining narrative.
