Man hurt in bridge crash

A man was flown to hospital in a serious condition and a central road in Marton was blocked after a crash.

A vehicle hit the overbridge on Kensington Rd just after 3pm on Monday, a police spokesman said.

Emergency services responded, and the driver was flown to hospital by helicopter in a serious condition. The serious crash unit also attended.

The road was closed following the crash, with damaged barriers blocking one lane, but contractors removed them and the road was reopened.

At 6.40pm police went to another crash in Manawatu, where a black hatchback was damaged in a collision with a silver sedan at the corner of Palmerston North’s Bryant and Cuba streets. Police said there were no injuries.
