Revamped facility providing quality care

-

Formerly known as Ranfurly Manor, located at Nelson St, Feilding, Nelson Residential Care Centre has undergone a complete refurbishment and is now open.

There was a total commitment to ensuring the additions and alterations provided an environment where optimum in resident care could be delivered.

When owner Tom Brankin bought the original building 10 years ago, his plan was always to overhaul the entire building and layout.

This has been three years in the planning as the development of Ranfurly Residential Care Centre at 6 Monmouth St, Feilding, was completed first.

This facility is a new purposebuilt aged care centre that provides quality service for all levels of care. This includes 75 hospital beds, a 20-bed dementia unit, License To Occupy (LTO) care apartments and stand alone units.

Ranfurly Manor Ltd General Manager Virginia Dyall-Kalidas has appointed Darren McKean facility manager at the Nelson Ranfurly Residential Care Centre. He says he is absolutely delighted with the completed project.

‘‘My door is always open, and I welcome people to come and view what has been achieved with the new layout and facilities that we now have to offer,’’ says Darren.

Darrren, a registered nurse, has always been passionate about quality aged care.

‘‘When I first started my nursing training, my passion was to be working in an environment that provided quality care for the aged. Nelson Residential Care Centre is designed to provide a home away from home.’’

The new layout includes easy access from all entries with ramps and spacious courtyards and garden areas. All the 49 rooms available have views of the newlyplanted gardens.

The rooms are generous in size and 12 of the rooms have shared ensuite facilities.

Spacious living rooms and the central courtyard allow plenty of space to sit for visiting families and friends and the stylish decor certainly creates a desirable home away from home. Natural light streams in to complement the modern, comfortable furniture arranged throughout the building. The well laid out commercial kitchen provides an excellent working area.

In keeping with the larger facility at Monmouth Street, a qualified chief is employed. Her role is to look at menus approved by the dietician and work out innovative ways to create a dining experience.

‘‘One of the things I have introduced is to offer a continental breakfast,’’ says Darren.

‘‘It is totally unnecessary to insist on routines at set times in the morning. We want to offer our residents a lifestyle that works for them. We are creating an environment that enables people to maintain their independence just as if they were still in their own home. If someone wants an earlier or later breakfast – so be it. The philosophy is that we come into their home, and assist with the things they can no longer do as their care partner.’’

A large sheltered and sunny area off the dining room is set out for barbecues and al fresco dining if people so choose.

A purpose-built hair salon is available at the facility and a Feilding hairdresser will be available Monday mornings and Friday afternoons.

To find out more about the new facility or to see it for yourself, phone 280 4839 or 0276594138, Darren is more than happy to take you on a tour of the new Nelson care centre.

‘‘It will be a privilege to show you this wonderful home.’’
