RESCUE CALLOUT

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter helped retrieve a pair of hunters who got lost in the Ruahine Ranges. The helicopter was sent to the ranges, near Rangiwhaia Hut, on Saturday night after the hunters activated a personal locator beacon at 8pm. When the pair could not be found in an aerial search, the helicopter delivered a search and rescue team near the beacon’s location to search from the ground. The ground team found the hunters but weren’t able to get the them out until early Sunday morning.
