Dick takes out tight contest

-

The course at Taihape Golf Club was in grand condition given the weather in the preceding week.

Fortunately the overhead conditions were good but the softer ground made it difficult for the longer handicappers. The greens were receptive to all shots and consistent to putt on.

The Jack Evans was a close run contest with 1 shot between the first 4 players who were all on lower handicaps as was expected. It was the consistent Duane Dick who prevailed on 4 up on pars shooting 72 off the stick despite one over the fence on the second. Dick subsequently birdied 3 and 13 in a very tidy performance in which he missed short putts on the last 2 holes and could well have finished 6 up.

On 3 up were fellow pennant players Matt Booth, Matt Thomas and Alan Thomas.

Matt Thomas shot an even par 71 which included birdies on 2, 13, 17 and 18 flying home in 33. Likewise Matt Booth also shot 71 birdieing 3 of the par 5’s (9, 15 and 18) as well as the 10 th . Alan Thomas managed 74 off the stick in one of his better recent rounds.

There were 6 players tying for 5 th on square. They included Peter Valentine, John Fenemor, Nick McGuinn, Dave Pollard, Kerry Wells and Danny Mickleson.

Twos Matt Thomas (17), Gary Thomas (12)

Karen Clark took out the McKenzie up 2 shots clear of Lesley Hard widge and Denis Millner.

Colin Mortland presented the Jack Evans trophy to Duane Dick.

This Sunday the Presidents Trophy team plays Marton at Rangitikei in the quarter finals whist the A Grade Pennant Team plays Palmerston North at Marton in the semifinals.
