Your community plan
Council’s Community Planning Programme supports 11 community communities from Rangiwahia to Pohangina to Himatangi Beach to develop a shared vision for their respective villages. Community planning provides a mechanism for collaboration between communities, council and other agencies to implement improvements in these areas.
The programme’s objectives are:
• To set clear strategic direction for villages, reflecting each community’s unique characteristics. • To provide a pathway for the village community’s vision and priorities to be reflected in council’s and other agencies strategies and work plans. • To grow village community spirit, attract and retain residents. • To enable village residents to create the communities they want. • To further develop constructive working relationships between councillors, village residents, businesses and council staff. So far eight of the committees have completed their plans, with three more still to go. Last week, Hiwinui began work on their community plan. Following this, Council will gather all of the ideas suggested to create a draft plan for the community to then comment back on.
Some of the ideas considered are things like extra footpaths, lighting, and shops, traffic safety, community sizes, what services are needed or can be sustained, more community events, if the roads and school are in the right place, plus many more.
