Feilding lights up
Carriages and horses were used as part of the display to showcase an amazing array of colours in this year’s Fantasy in Lights display.
The biennial Fantasy in Lights display changed locations this year with the Makino Rotary Club setting up shop at the Coach House Museum in Feilding from July 7 to 22.
Previous lighting events had been held in Kowhai Park, but maintenance work reduced the number of trees and natural areas available for placement of the light frames.
Lights co-ordinator Gary Worsley said 500 people had already been through in the first three nights.
About 100 lights were on display with most of the lights made by members of their club. ‘‘It took us five days to set up.’’ Samuel Russell, 11, loved the music they were playing inside.
His favourite lights were the disco lights or the ones that looked like fireworks.
Kellie Vincent said she brought her children as they had enjoyed their visit in a previous year.
This year it was a lot warmer and a bit drier.
‘‘I’ve never been in this building before.
‘‘It’s quite interesting so we’re going to come over in the day time so they can see the museum.’’
Rita Palmer had brought her granddaughter to the lights and said the event organisers had done a stellar job in making it look great.
She had never been to the Feilding lights festival before and said this year’s venue was an added bonus. ‘‘How wonderful for Feilding.’’ Palmer said it was great having an event like this in the school holidays for all ages to enjoy.
The lights show also got a tick of approval from Olivia Morrah, 7, and Weston Morrah, 8. ‘‘This is the first time I’ve been. ‘‘I really like the toy witches and I like the lights that shine on the ground’’, Olivia said.
Weston said he liked the glow sticks.
Fantasy in Lights runs from from 6pm to 8pm during the school holidays.
Entry is $10 for adults, children $2 and a family pass $20.
Eftpos will be available at the door and all proceeds go to community projects.
