ACT stands in Rangitikei
ACT has announced a Rangitikei candidate among the 40 people on its party’s list for this year’s general election.
Neil Wilson, a long-standing ACT supporter, is standing in the Rangitikei electorate for the second time.
Wilson has been working with the party since 1996, when he stood as its Mana candidate.
He said he was drawn to the party for its policies that promoted freedom and prosperity.
‘‘Freedom is a very important part of a happy life.’’
ACT’s policies allowed people to live the way they wanted to, Wilson said.
‘‘I think that ACT is the only party that encapsulates those ideas. You can’t be truly free until you give up trying to control what other people do.’’
ACT’s superannuation policy, for example, was the only one ’’really tackling’’ the issue, Wilson said.
On its website ACT claims it is the only party with a policy that aims to decrease the cost of superannuation for taxpayers. It has advocated for raising the retirement age since 2011.
‘‘It’s very important that the country tackles this issue.’’
Wilson will be campaigning for the party vote. With no ACT candidate in Palmerston North, he said he may make an appearance there, though he already had a large area to cover. Colin Anderson will stand in Whanganui.
