Feilding on track for CNI semi

- SHAUN EADE

The Feilding High School 1st XV remain on track for top four finish in the CNI after a 55-10 win over Rathkeale College on Saturday.

The win sees them retain the Rick Francis Memorial Shield for another week.

Feilding feasted off getting quick ball at the ruck, which gave Rathkeale no time to defend.

Their scrum and lineout both functioned smoothly which ensured they took control of the possession stats.

With a lead of more than 30 points at halftime, the coaches rung the changes to give some of their players who have had big minutes, and those heading to the Hurricanes Under 18 camp, some time off.

One of the players who could consider himself unlucky not to be heading to that camp, second five-eighth Shaiden Daniels, proved his talent as he bagged a hat-trick from the match.

Midfield partner Josiah Maraku and halfback Griffin Culver got two tries each, while fullback Drew Wild and wing Paul Rakatau-Wiperi scored one each.

Wild was the standout for Feilding. His kicking, defensively alignment and timing on attack helped them get plenty of goforward.

No 8 Lennox Shanks and halfback Culver were others to impress.

Feilding have two games remaining in the CNI against Lindisfarne and Francis Douglas Memorial College.

But first they face Napier Boys’ High School in a traditional fixture on July 23.

Feilding High School 55 (Shaiden Daniels 3, Josiah Maraku 2, Griffin Culver 2, Drew Wild, Paul Rakatau-Wiperi tries; Wild 5 con) Rathkeale College 10 (2 tries).
