Stand-up comedy returning to Feilding

- SAM KILMISTER

‘‘He's got a funny story or two to tell about this experience.’’ Ben Caldwell, show co-ordinator

After a successful first show in July, stand-up comedy will return to Feilding.

The Comedy Hub returns to the Stockyard at Denbigh on October 27, this time with legendary Wellington MC Ants Heath at the helm.

Also featured in the show are two Feilding-based performers, Sinead O’Connell and Tito, as well as Justin Ngai and Stephanie Hedges from Palmerston North.

Heath has spent the last 17 years working extensively in corporate entertainment, street and live theatre.

A fearless performer who’s not afraid of tackling any issue, he’ll be sure to have the audience in stitches with his stories and blunt assessment of life around him, coordinator Ben Caldwell said.

‘‘Always keen for a laugh, he’ll entertain and maybe even slightly educate you with stories of a life spent bouncing around New Zealand and his observations of the country we call home.’’

O’Connell moved to Feilding from Auckland to become a property mogul. A jack of all trades, she works as a barber and has a background in film and television.

‘‘And by that we mean she literally makes the backgrounds.’’

Tito hosted the last show at Stockyard and he returns this time as father of his fifth baby, which arrived five-and-a-half weeks earlier than planned, but Caldwell says he’s ever the joker.

‘‘He’s got a funny story or two to tell about this experience. He’s committed to comedy... his wife just wishes he showed this much commitment to his family.’’

With a masters in philosophy, Ngai is both ‘‘blessed and cursed’’ by his ability to justify pretty much anything. ‘‘He has legions of fangirls and fanboys alike, constantly knocking on the front door of his imagination.’’

Stephanie likes pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain, Caldwell said.

‘‘She spends more time online than she should, and makes a lot of obscure references.’’

Caldwell said she could read her flatmate’s minds, which freaked him out. ‘‘She’s one quarter magician on her mum’s side, but doesn’t have the hand-eye coordination to master sleight of hand.’’

Earlybird tickets are $15 and available from Eventfinda or the Stockyard. Door sales on the night are $20.
