Hot form for golfers during opening day

TAIHAPE GOLF: The Monday morning rain cleared at midday to provide ideal conditions for the drawn partners Canadian Foursomes opening day chicken run.

Life Member Graeme Rose opened the year with his signature silky left handed Bob Charles like swing, hitting the first ball of the new season. The warm up helped Rose and his partner Kevin O’Brien take out the AJC trophy with a net score of 67.3. In the mixed Canadian Foursomes, Fran Robertson combined well with Alan Thomas proving a formidable partnershi­p also having 67.3 net for the McKee trays. Merv Tapp was a calming influence on Nick McGuinn’s game combining for a 70 net. Denis Robertson and Matt Thomas were steady on 71.3 net. Summer Cup winner Barrie Randall drew the inform Duane Dick for a 73.3 net. Twos were registered by G Rose and K O’Brien on the 12th, and F Robertson and A Thomas on the 14 th .

Sunday’s haggle was the first of the Shergold medal qualifiers. Hamish Rose cleaned up the hotly contested field with 62 net, Ken Cribb 65, Alan Thomas 66, Kerry Wells 67, Danny Mickleson 70, Denise Millner Duane Dick and Kevin O’Brien all on 71. Twos were registered by A Thomas 6th , K Wells 8th and Diane Mickleson 12th .
