Invitation: dig deep for Tuakau

The people of Tuakau and surrounds are being asked to diary September 18 for a day of getting busy cleaning up the town and surrounds as part of Keep New Zealand Beautiful’s annual Clean Up Week, September 12-19.

‘‘This year is set to be another successful clean-up and planting day in Tuakau with many community organisati­ons on board to get involved in this ‘‘placemakin­g’’ event in Tuakau,’’ organiser Jacqui Church said. ‘‘We are all hoping for better weather this year but whatever the day throws at us our hardy volunteers and the Tuakau Sea Scouts will clean and plant, even in the pouring rain.’’

The clean up and planting day starts with registrati­on at the Tuakau Hotel car park from 8.30am-9.30am, with cleaning up and planting till 1pm at Les Batkin Reserve. Morning tea with be provided for volunteers courtesy of the Tuakau Lions at the Tuakau Hotel, with lunch - a sausage sizzle by the Tuakau Rotary Club - at Kowhai Reserve.

The planting includes fruit trees and natives, which will progress the Tuakau Food Trail.
