- STAFF REPORTERS

Race fans from Franklin are being offered a slice of high-octane virtual track action

As part of the ITM Auckland Supersprint, a Pukekohe Fan Day will be held at the town square on Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm

People will be able to wear a virtual reality (VR) headset, settle into a racing seat and experience the excitement of a hot lap around the Pukekohe Park Raceway at high speed.

There will also be a photo booth and four Supercars drivers will be at the square form 4.30pm – 5.30pm to sign autographs.

Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED) chief executive Brett O’Riley said augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) was one of the Auckland and New Zealand’s most dynamic technology sectors.

‘‘Commissioning the VR experience is a win-win situation for Auckland, Pukekohe Park Raceway and the ITM Auckland SuperSprint.’’

O’Riley said as part of legacy work around the ITM Auckland SuperSprint, ATEED will provide Pukekohe Park with a licence for ongoing use of the VR software at the Pukekohe Park raceway.

Magnify founder Matt Coleman said his team was excited to offer SuperSprint fans the chance to experience what it’s like to race around the Pukekohe track.

ITM Auckland SuperSprint is at Pukekohe Park Raceway, November 4-6.
