Future creative

Today we launch our coverage of head students in Franklin.

Franklin County News - - OUT & ABOUT -

Name: Cameron Lamont Age: 17 School: Waiuku College Describe how you achieved the honour of being named head student: I made the most of all the opportunities the school gave me and used them to develop the skills I needed.

Goals for the year? To get into Massey University for Creative Media Production

Highlight of your secondary education so far? I got to go on a World Challenge Expedition to Zambia and Botswana which gave me some awesome life experiences and great people skills.

Favourite subject and why? I really enjoy my art subjects as they allow me to be creative and I get to use some amazing tools and gadgets to express my artwork.

What do you like most about your school?

I think it’s really awesome how everyone in our school sticks up for one another and we have a really awesome community feeling within the school.

When you are not studying, what do you like to do?

I really enjoy orienteering because it has allowed me to see some of New Zealand’s amazing scenery and also let me meet some amazing and dedicated people.

Who is the Kiwi you admire most and why?

I very much admire Brando Yelavich. He realised that his life was headed into the wrong direction and used his passion of the outdoors to help himself turn his life around and help out others wherever he can.

If I was Auckland/Waikato’s mayor I’d...

If I was the Mayor of Auckland I would help develop funding for youth programmes based around the wider Auckland area such as Hillary Outdoors and Spirit of Adventure, as I believe that these kind of programmes are important for youth development in our community.
