We continue our coverage of head students in our district with Charles from Onewhero Area School.

-

Name: Charles Paterson Age: 17 School: Onewhero Area School Describe how you achieved the honour of being named head student, (lots of study etc):

Being a role model to the students of the school and having a passion to give back to them. Also being academic. Goals for the year? Excellence endorsement, to leave my mark on the school before I leave, make a positive change

Highlight of your secondary education so far?

Being able to be in a school with the younger generations e.g year 1-8. Also achieving well in level 1 and 2 Favourite subject and why? Physics/Calculus - I can’t decide which is better but I enjoy both of them because I am able to relate it back to real life situations which means I know I’m not learning it just for the sake of learning it. What do you like most about your school? How we are all like a big family and everyone knows everyone, and also how friendly the teachers are. They are able to relate on a professional level as well as a personal level.

When you are not studying, what do you like to do?

Play basketball, Soccer, Guitar, Drive around, ‘magic’ (card tricks). Who is the Kiwi you admire most and why? Marco Rojas because he’s worked so hard to get to where he is now. If I was Auckland/Waikato’s mayor I’d… Look at ways to make science and maths more interesting and look at putting funding towards people who can’t afford to take their talents to more professional places.
