Father and son’s first time duo performance
While they are no strangers to performing, a Pukekohe father and son duo will perform together on stage for the first time. The pair will take the stage for
beginning Friday, which is also the first time the Pukekohe Performing Arts group has put on a play since 2009.
Barry Robinson and his son Daniel play brothers, and Barry said it has been a great experience so far. They had not originally been cast to play siblings, but after a cast member pulled out of the play, it all fell in to place.
‘‘When (director) Bob Lack saw the two of us together, you could see the gears in his mind working... the fact that we look similar helps with the whole brother thing.
‘‘Dan has been coming to see my shows since he was a baby. He said to me earlier this year he wanted to do a show with me in Hunua. That didn’t work out, but this opportunity came up.’’
It has been all go since then, and Barry said it was handy living with a cast member.
‘‘We rehearse in the car, and sometimes on the couch and we are always bouncing lines backwards and forwards to each other. We’re quite frank with each other.’’ Daniel, a uni student and composer, said he was excited about showcasing his acting passion alongside his dad.
‘‘He’s very experienced in doing these types of plays. He’s really good at explaining how to tweak a situation and how to milk the laughs.
‘‘I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together in front of an audience...The whole thing is just a really good time. It’s funny from the outset and throughout - if you’re after a politically correct night, then this isn’t it.’’
