League team excel in final
Four Pukekohe league players excelled at the Auckland Rugby League International Competition in the 12/13 Restricted Grade Championship Grand Finals.
Toaiti Ramsay, Daniel Howell, Braye Holmes, Sonny Kahui and Nathan Ripia play for the Howick Hornets Rugby League Club.
Four of the boys, Toaiti, Daniel, Braye and Sonny played, but Nathan did not as he had broken his leg three weeks prior. The event was held in Manurewa against Hibiscus Coast Maroons.
Braye scored the first try for Howick putting his team on the board and it was converted by Jayden Morrison of Howick.
The second try was scored by Howick boy, Kees Jones with a missed conversion by Jayden, hence the half time score of 10 to Howick. In the second half Hibiscus Coast scored another converted try, leading 20-10.
The second half proved to be much better for Howick, with another try scored by Kyan Brown, who is also from Howick, then converted by Toaiti making it 20-16 to Hibiscus Coast. Howick then kicked into second gear with a tie-breaking try from Toaiti, unconverted by Jayden, but making it a draw 20-20.
Toaiti pulled out another try, unconverted by Jayden to take the lead for his team, 24-20 to Howick. Then Toaiti did it again, scoring another try in the last few minutes, unconverted but taking his team to victory. The final score was 28-20 to Howick Hornets.
