There are two types of people; those who love Christmas and those who dread it.

I am firmly in the love Christmas camp, so with that in mind I feel I should warn you that by the time you are reading this there are only around 14 Mondays until Christmas.

I’m not too sure where the year has gone but in our office we are already thinking about Christmas.

In line with this, we have a few events coming up to support people shopping local.

SHOP TO WIN

We are really excited to be running a brand new promotion that will lead into the Christmas retail rush this year.

The main points of the promotion are as follows:

Customers can win a trip for two to Rarotonga by spending any dollar amount at a participating business.

The promotion will run from September 28 – November 30 The idea of the promotion is to encourage and reward local residents for shopping local.

Businesses will be given an advertising poster indicating their involvement in the promotion ie ‘Shop Here to Win’ so customers know where they can enter.

Keep an eye on our website for further details in relation to this promotion.

CHRISTMAS SCAVENGER HUNT

The Christmas Scavenger Hunt is on again for its third year with cash prizes up for grabs.

The promotion runs from November 30 through to 5pm December 20 and we would love to see hundreds of entries. The scavenger hunt involves 40 wooden Christmas trees that have been decorated by local schools. Each tree has a number which scavengers have to find to complete the form to go into the draw to win cash prizes just in time for Christmas.

The entry form will be found in Franklin County News, from participating businesses and on our website. We strongly encourage the community to support this promotion and be in to win cash for Christmas.

A reminder to turn your clocks forward on September 24 for Daylight Savings – spring is here!

The Waiuku Business and Development Association AGM date is Tuesday, October 31, 6pm at the Waiuku Golf & Squash Club.

This is a great opportunity for all our members to come and hear what the Waiuku Business and Development Association has achieved over the last financial year and our goals and aspirations going forward.

We look forward to seeing you there.

I am very happy to report that the permit had been submitted for this year’s Blast to the Past.

The date will be Saturday, October 28 and the rain date will be October 29.

This year’s event will be held at the new Waiuku Sports Park Facility at the Waiuku Rugby Club and promises to be something special.

With the venue change and the huge increase in space it gives our pyrotechnic a lot more scope for the display.

This display is also the only commercial public pyrotechnic fireworks display in South Auckland we know of so it promises to be a very popular event.

A huge thank you again to our major sponsor Sam Wulff from the Waiuku Business Park and Franklin Local Board along with our other sponsors Waiuku New World and a local stall holder who wishes to remain anonymous.

Without your generous contribution, this event would not be possible. More details will be available soon on www.waiukutown.co.nz

I just wanted to give you all an update on the hard edging on the Tamakae Reserve. Due to the very wet weather we have been having lately this has put the work back considerably. The completion date has been extended out until the end of January 2018.

It was great to see such a great turnout of over 60 Waiuku business owners to our police meeting last Wednesday evening. Police shared valuable insight into how to stay safe, the importance of reporting criminal activity, the effectiveness of trespass notices, dealing with intimidation and how we could all work together to stamp out unwanted illegal activity in our town.
