Apartment living in Pukekohe’s future plan

- NATALIE POLLEY

Pukekohe, once known for the quarter acre dream, may soon see its first residential high-rise apartment tower crop up.

The proposed tower would be built at 30 Franklin Rd, which is currently being marketed by Barfoot and Thompson Pukekohe’s Jason Woodyard.

The site, opposite ECOLight Stadium, has a council issued project information memorandum for a five level high-rise residential development comprised of 21 units.

The units would be a mixture of two and three bedroom apartments, with a total of 43 onsite carparks.

The proposed residential development has been conceived by Avery Team Architects, one of the leading cotemporary designers for intensive residential developments in Auckland.

Woodyard said the apartment tower would be an exciting project for Pukekohe.

‘‘There’s been nothing of this scale before.’’ He said he expected more apartment-style housing in Pukekohe’s future.

‘‘We will definitely see more intensification in Pukekohe as the population grows. The centre of town will pick up and provide more momentum. This will provide more employment and people will be spending money locally here in Pukekohe...going out for dinner, especially if they upgrade the train station - it’ll be a fantastic thing.’’

Woodyard said Auckland Council’s Future Urban Land Supply Strategy dentified significant residential development in Pukekohe, Paerata and in nearby Drury West. The site is for sale by tender, closing September 7.
