Franklin County News

FROM THE EDITOR

-

Winter certainly arrived with a vengeance last week, with the North Island - namely Auckland, bearing the brunt of the hideous storm.

Franklin did not escape the wind and rain, with gusts for more than 200kmh recorded at the tip of the Awhitu Peninsula.

The district’s power supply was severely impacted with 15,000 homes district-wide impacted at the peak of the storm.

The team at Counties Power (see P1), has worked tirelessly around the clock to fix faults caused by the storm, up all hours and in terrible conditions.

I reckon they’ve done a great job - sure it’s been tough on those without electricity, but this storm was a monster and even worse than the January 5 event, so it’s a mammoth job to get things up and running again, as fast as humanly possible.

Fingers crossed the weather improves this week so the Counties Power crew can get the job done. Julie Kaio News Director OFFICE: 09 237 0400. ADDRESS: 217 King St, PO Box 14, Pukekohe.
