Pineapple harvester Juliana Dela Rosa, 59, has worked at Dole for 24 years. A former tailor, Rosa says she felt like she’d “won in a sweepstake” when she began working for the company “because I only earned enough money for food by being a tailor,” she says. “Now I’m able to buy what I need and want, and provide well for my family.” Hand picking the pineapples can be challenging, especially on hot days, but laughter is a big part of the job. “We laugh while working. It’s a bonding activity for us when we harvest pineapples,” says Rosa.
