Verdi Requiem makes a return

- STAFF REPORTERS

‘‘More than 220 musicians will guarantee a spinetingling and dramatic evening.’’

The Hamilton Civic Choir is collaborating with Bach Musica NZ once again to present two concerts of Verdi’s Requiem.

In 2002, these two groups presented the same work in the Founders Theatre and in the Auckland Town Hall, to full houses and critical acclaim.

This year the plans are almost identical, but the sudden closure of the Founders Theatre means the Hamilton concert had to find a new venue in the Chapel at St. Pauls Collegiate School.

The performances in both cities will once again be under the baton of conductor Rita Paczian.

She will direct a huge line-up of forces including a chorus made up of more than 100 singers from the Bach Musica, Hamilton Civic, National Youth and Graduate choirs.

Together, more than 220 musicians will guarantee a spine-tingling and dramatic evening for both audience and performers.

The soloists for these concerts are Morag Atchison (soprano), Catrin Johnsson (mezzo), David Hamilton (tenor) and Joel Amosa (bass).

Guiseppe Verdi’s Requiem, Saturday October 8, at 7:30pm, The Chapel at St. Pauls Collegiate School, 77 Hukanui Road, Hamilton. Bookings: http:/ /premier.ticketek.co.nz/.
