Kids find home at show

- STAFF REPORTERS

A record number of visitors are expected to attend this weekend’s Waikato Home and Garden Show during the country’s biggest ever building and renovation boom.

More than 30,000 people will seek inspiration for their interior and outdoor spaces from 450 different exhibitors. The four-day show is the largest of its kind in New Zealand and will be held at Hamilton’s Claudelands Events Centre on October 6-9.

This year visitors will have more than two acres of outdoor displays and seven pavilions to browse through. Hundreds of experts will also be on hand to advise on everything from kitchens and bathrooms to wallpaper, paint, designer furniture, floral art and more.

It’s also a good way to say goodbye to school holidays for the kids. Children under the age of 16 get into the show for free to enjoy bouncy castles, water balls, face painting and a three-metre-tall slide.

There is a lot of food to tempt the tiniest of taste buds at the International Food Court, plus children’s furniture specialists and garden crafts. Dreamboat Books will also be appearing at the show with their range of popular children and family books. One of their most popular titles is Baa Baa Smart Sheep, a favourite of many New Zealand children with more than 40,000 books sold nationally and another 80,000 internationally. Authors Mark Sommerset and his wife Rowan will be on the stand to meet the children and are known to give impromptu readings.

Children can also explore nature inside the 800sqm metre architecturally designed Brooklyn Marquee which this year features four displays from across the country entered into the New Zealand Landscape Design Awards.
