Wearing the right colours can make you look slimmer, taller and younger. But how do you know which ones do what?

Personal colour consultants like Christine Rodgers aim to help answer the question. They are specialists of colour, mavens of apparel.

At her Hamilton studio on the corner of Lake Rd and Somerset St, there are palettes in summer, autumn, winter and spring shades. She helps women find the colours that compliment their complexion, and help them give their wardrobes a lift.

‘‘It’s not just about the colour, it’s about giving women confidence. And the colour confidence goes over into personal confidence as well.’’

Rodgers finished training in 2014 and formed New Style in 2015.

She’s found that many people want to wear more colour but are worried they will stand out in the crowd.

‘‘The right colours aren’t necessarily going to make you stand out but the wrong colours can,’’ she said.

There is a lot of black clothing in New Zealand, Rodgers said, but personally, it isn’t a colour she’s drawn to.

‘‘Colours are very emotive. They effect our mood.’’
