Thousands of people gathered on the ground of the University of Waikato to watch this year’s Balloons OverWaikat­o event on Saturday. People started arriving at 4pm and, as the evening ended at 9pm, the crowd of around 80,000 quietly melted away.

Hamilton resident Kathy McCaughtri­e is asking for help to find out who shot her cat, Bindi, after the fury face was found with a pellet lodged in its spine. The cat is now paralysed.
