Animals join their owners on Pink Walk

- EMELYN MCHARDY

‘‘This event goes ahead no matter what, it would have to be a mini tornado basically before I would call it off.’’

All walks of life, humans and animals, will support breast cancer awareness month in Hamilton.

The Waikato Breast Cancer Research Trust will hold a pink walk and fun run on October 19 at the Hamilton Yacht Club

Co-ordinator Fiona Johnson said anyone was welcome.

‘‘We have had the occasional horse in the past,’’ Johnson said.

‘‘Dogs are very popular and about three years ago, someone had pushed in a push chair, one or two rabbits who were dressed up in pink as well.’’

Pets and pet owners were encouraged to dress up in pink, with prizes available for best dressed male, female and dog.

The walk starts at 5.45pm with Les Mills staff providing a warm up for participants. The run starts at 6.15pm.

Be prepared for any weather on the day.

‘‘This event goes ahead no matter what, it would have to be a mini tornado basically before I would call it off,’’ Johnson said.

There was a $20 entry fee for people over 17, $5 for people aged between 5-17. Free for under 5s.

Registration available at pinkwalk.co.nz, or late comers can join on the day from 4.30pm and onwards.
