Overlooking Hamilton Gardens is a company which is providing an online platform for international businesses.

Shift 72 is largely unknown but it’s now operating as a worldwide leader in video, on demand technology.

Chief executive David White is not surprised the business has flown under the radar in New Zealand.

Its customers are based in the United States and European markets but New Zealanders benefit from the online entertainment platforms the company produce.

‘‘Our product is a software platform which allows customers to use in order to monetise what they are selling,’’ White said.

‘‘Simply put if you are watching a movie or television programme via your computer, we are providing the platform for it.’’

Customer success manager Tania Jones is excited about the company’s future.

Shift 72 is looking to handle all forms of entertainment including movies from studio release.

‘‘Our challenge is to stay ahead of device manufacturers as every model of playback technology is reconfigured to be different from the last,’’ Jones said.

Inside the company’s office are its ‘‘computer geeks’’.

‘‘These guys are the brains of our operation,’’ said White. ‘‘This team constantly works on research and development for us to remain competitive.

‘‘We work hard ensuring copyright is protected which is important to our clients as they want to have secure screening rooms for their product.’’

The company’s technology is to be used by The American Film Market, a film industry event held each year in Santa Monica. The event planned to introduce an online screenings platform in advance of this year’s market.

The new platform will allow sales companies to screen their films privately for buyers before, during and after the event.

The American Fim Markets will use Shift 72’s technology to provide studio approved digital rights management and antipiracy tools to securely stream premium content in HD quality. Childcare to sports supplements businesses have been acknowledged in annual Deloitte Fast 50 awards.

The Deloitte Fast 50 index ranks the top 50 businesses in New Zealand according to their revenue growth over the past three years.

The central region has seen Nurtured at Home, a childcare business take top honours in the Fastest Growing services category.
