White Christmas at The Base
The Base will almost represent a winter wonderland this December, with the addition of a temporary ice rink.
Ice World New Zealand will install the ice skating rink on December 1.
It is made from real ice and measures 15x25m.
The Base was the perfect location for the rink, centre manager Simon Betts said.
‘‘We believe this is the first ice rink to be installed at a shopping centre in New Zealand.’’
The rink will be open until December 28 from 9am to 9pm daily, and 10pm on Friday and Saturdays.
In line with The Base’s extended shopping hours the Ice Rink will remain open until midnight on Thursday, December 21.
Ice World managing director Wayne Lawrence said he was excited to bring the rink to Hamilton.
‘‘Ice World last brought the Ice Rink to Hamilton in 2012, and this is our first event at The Base.
‘‘It’s incredibly exciting. Hamilton does not have a permanent ice rink so this experience will be a novelty to many.
‘‘The rink will be Christmas themed, with falling snow and ice, adding to the festive occasion.’’
Ice World events are delivered with a festival atmosphere, with figure skating demos, ice hockey, face painting and food trucks being among the extra activities available at the rink.
